Target finale: first open presidential cycle in a generation

Why Now?
Every ingredient of POTUS has a proven audience. The Apprentice proved America watches leadership competitions. American Idol proved they'll vote for a stranger they believe in. The West Wing and House of Cards proved they'll spend hours with political drama. Cable news proved political content is the most-watched genre on television. Nobody has fused them. Until now.
Politics is ever-present in our world. Ask even the most checked-out, member of society and after a rhetorical, “I don’t like politics,” chances are, they will offer a perspective on some issue of importance to them. TV is chock full of examples that demonstrate this reality. Political dramas have dominated throughout time (The West Wing, Scandal, The Diplomat), political satire is, arguably, even more memorable and loved (Veep, Parks and Recreation, Saturday Night Live), satirical political news shows have proven staying power with Jon Stewart’s show maintaining an audience for nearly 30 years (The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight, Real Time with Bill Maher), and of course, no one can ignore the force that is political punditry and opinion (name the show on Fox News, CNN, MSNOW).
For better, or for worse, politics is perhaps the single most impactful phenomenon in everybody’s world. And let’s be honest, things are not getting any less contentious or messy. We have entered the thunderdome, and the whole country is wrapped up in the tribalism. Now, more than ever, is the time to offer everyone a political show that’s never been done before, and one that speaks to all sides of the political spectrum – something to cling to, root for, root against, and watch relentlessly.
It will resonate with everyday Americans who feel disenfranchised by our political system. It will give viewers something to cling to, and a sense of renewed empowerment in the political process. It will speak to a huge swath of America in a new and energizing way. And let’s be honest, even the political class will find themselves getting sucked in to hate watch the drama and entertainment as it unfolds.
