Let's Be Real
The winner of a reality show will likely not become President of the United States. This job has been reserved for the most connected, most elite few for 100% of American history.
But that's not exactly the point, is it?
And it would be a shame to not give it a shot. Ten years ago, most people would not have guessed a real estate developer and host of a successful reality show would reach the Oval Office, but here we are.
Why America's Candidate doesn't have to win the presidency for POTUS to be a winner
Here are a few reasons:
-
Primarily - entertainment, viewership, ad dollars
But beyond the obvious:
-
Start a national conversation about the illogical nature of our political process
-
Illustrate that there may be a better way to elevate leaders to any office in our country than the current 200 year-old, two-party playbook.
-
Influence the discussions and the debates among the political class
-
Inspire the country to consider alternative pathways to the presidency
-
Spotlight undiscovered political talent and elevate the best among us onto the national stage.
-
And importantly, mine massive amounts of valuable political data and voter insights
Perhaps it's unlikely - but don't discount the global distaste for the status quo.
From Paris to Buenos Aires, Ottawa to Budapest – the defining political story of this moment is outsider candidates, armed with no party infrastructure and noestablishment blessing, winning by making the old political order irrelevant. Emmanuel Macron built a party from scratch and won France's presidency in 14 months.Javier Milei ran against every institution in Argentina and won in a landslide. America has no equivalent path. POTUS creates one.
